What’s inspiring me these days; plus a mini-solstice ritual just for you

Soul searching

Soul searching, in the dark.

Starry sky

Cool breath

Crisp steps.

I’m not so different than I was, 10,000 years ago.

~Jessica Nobrega

I am inspired by the birds, the trees, and the adaptive qualities of nature these days. I have been hermit-ing (not sure that is a word?) up in my bed or beside the fireplace with a multitude of books, and re-visiting ones that have made a deep impact on me.

Books that are on my nightstand right now:

Waking Up in 5D by Maureen St. Germain. This book does a beautiful job of setting intentions for the day ahead or even before sleeping in order to connect with your higher self.

Anatomy of the Spirit by Caroline Myss. Some of the examples in this book are over-simplified, however I like how she correlates the seven Hindu chakras, the sacraments of ancient Christianity and the Kabbalah's tree of life to energy in the body and possible illnesses or 'dis-ease'.

Awakening Shakti by Sally Kempton. I just started this one but it discusses how we all embody Goddess energy during different times of our lives and how we might be more in the energy of one goddess then the other, and how it can be hindering our advancement or even contributing to self-sabotage.

Medicine Woman AND Spirit Woman by Lynn Andrews. These are mind-blowing books of Lynn's own journey through her awakening to her spirit and energy from past lives. An art collector from LA, she connects with wise indigenous women in the Canadian prairies and her life is forever changed. I took part in a book club for Medicine Woman and then read Spirit Woman shortly afterwards. The books are filled with beautiful lessons from the indigenous elders and an honest detail of the author's naivety towards understanding.

Books that I recommend over and over:

Do Less by Kate Northrup. This is such a powerful book to think of our monthly cycles and yearly calendar as seasons of ovulation or 'egg-energy', and luteal phase or 'inward reflection & creation'. I go back to this back time and time again.

A Happy Pocket Full of Money by David Gikandi. Even though the title of this book is about money, this book is more around an abundance mindset. I revisit this book often, and every time I do I am reminded how abundant the world truly is. This book also has helped me re-frame time and how it is a quantum construction of our own reality.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. A sometimes-frustrating tale of an epic journey a boy must take to learn his destiny, that is so relatable and a beautiful story to revisit often. An easy read that anyone can enjoy and relate to in their own life.

A Solstice Ritual - Just for You.

The Meaning of the Solstice

Solstice translates literally to "Sun stand still".

The Sun stands still in the sky, as far away as it can be from the equator.  The solstice is the still point of the year: the longest night and the turning toward the return of light. People have celebrated the Solstice for generations over thousands of years and we can learn so much from nature.

~It invites us into rest, reflection, and releasing what we no longer need.

Darkness in this season is not something to fear — it’s an invitation to slow down and turn inward. Welcoming warmth, softness, and simplicity
into our lives.  Preparing your body, mind, and home for winter. Winter asks us to conserve our energy, not scatter it.

Ask yourself: What am I saying yes to that I don’t actually have capacity for? Saying no is a sacred act of creating space for what matters.

I don't know about you but I clearly follow too many accounts on social media with very elaborate, long and complex morning or seasonal rituals. I do not have time for that - especially this time of year! Just the idea of carving out the time for a long and complex ritual right now stresses me out. Solstice rituals don’t need to be elaborate — simplicity is the ritual. Here is something you can do in under 30 minutes this winter solstice.

Winter Solstice Ritual - December 21st

On the afternoon of the solstice, Create a Soft, Glowing Sanctuary at Home

•Think candles, twinkling lights, and a fire in the fireplace.

•Go for a Solstice walk at dusk. Notice the silence, the birds, or the sound of your footsteps.

•Nourish with warmth: soup, tea, or mulled cider. Have a candlelit bath.

 REFLECTION PROMPTS

• What do I want to release before the longest night of the year?

• What does REST look like in this season?

• What are three things I will say no to?

AFFIRMATIONS

• I honor the stillness within me and welcome this season of rest.

• I choose simplicity, softness, and space for what truly matters.

Happy Solstice beautiful souls, I look forward to seeing you on the other side of this Sun-stand-still.
